Project 365 and a Craft

I'm gonna combine this post into one... a little blurb on a cute lil apron that's super easy to make. I found the instructions on "My Byrd House" blog.

The above pic is for Project 365, Day 90

It's super easy. Really. All you need is a pair of jeans (I got a pair at MCC), some double bias tape, complimentary fabric, a sewing machine, and ribbon (or something else to use as straps).

Take the jeans, cut off the leg (get the whole thing). Cut along the inside seam, then lay flat and figure out where to cut to get the apron shape you want (I did it so there would be about a foot width along the top of the apron, and then a gently curving line down to where I would want the straps to sit in the middle of the apron). Fold it in half and mimic the cut line on the other side. Trim up you edges, and do a nice slightly curved cut along the bottom. You can now trim all the unfinished edges with the bias tape, or you can do the parts you like and hem the rest, it's up to you. (from this point on, I varied my apron from the one on the site above)

Make pockets with your complimentary fabric. Take two squares (whatever size you like), fold them in half and make a v-shaped cut for the bottom of the pocket. Iron all the edges in (wrong side together) to make sewing easier. Stitch your top hem, then pin the pockets in place and sew it on.

Add the straps. I did one strap at the top with a button on the inside and 2 button holes on the strap. You can do two straps to tie if you like. Sew the straps in place where you like them. Make sure they are long enough (good reference, if you need two feet of strap total to finish going around your waist, do TWO straps at that length and you should be good).

Add little ribbons and embellishments (my 'bride' letters are actually scrapbook stickies that can come off because I don't know how much my friend would want to ALWAYS have 'bride' across the front of their apron). This little apron was made for a bridal shower I'm helping with tomorrow. Cute, huh? I want one now (ha ha).

Have fun sewing!
