So, I've been looking around for things I can use for my costumes, and I found a HUGE piece of somewhat sheer black fabric at the thrift store for $3.50. It's probably enough to make a circle skirt... maybe even one that is actually 1.5-2 full circles. Yes... it's HUGE. So, my Esmerelda costume won't quite be the same. Perhaps I can make a bright purple underskirt that you'll be able to see underneath the black. I still want to do the shirt and corsette type top, though, although probably not in white now. White and black looks too choir-ish (is that a word?). I found some awesome purple fabric that is stretchy in both directions... although it's a pale purple instead of a royal purple. I think I may try to make a top from that. I found a bunch of bracelets and hoop earrings from mcc as well. Perfect!
I also bought a bra to recover for the top of the 'Midna' esque costume. I've decided to make a top that has extra fabric running down the sides and back, but my belly will be exposed (mostly). I think I'll add fringes and such so my belly isn't as exposed. And I want to make the skirt. Although I'll be wearing a pair of workout shorts underneath or something, and of course there will be the glitzy jingly belt over it. I just love the pattern on her skirt. I still want to make the whole costume eventually for cosplay...
I just can't believe all the stuff I got from mcc yesturday... the black fabric, purple fabric, some gingham (I want to make it into a little table cloth and napkin 'set' for M), rubber boots for M, 2 pair shoes for Bram, a bunch of bracelets, earrings, a bra... all for under $8! Now I need to find sequins, a pattern for Esmerelda's shirt (or maybe, if I'm lucky, one that's similar), a 'corsette', and more black fabric (yes, more... not sheer).

Belly Dance
Well, I've been doing some research in making my costumes for the dances we are doing in June. I need an Egyptian style costume for the drum solo piece, and a gypsy style for the gypsy piece later on. Here are some ideas...
I really love Midna's costume from Twilight princess, and it has a belly dance feel to it. If I play it right, I could make it an Egyptian style belly dance costume... I just need to add pieces to it to glitz it up a bit.
Here is the costume... I think I would like to make the whole thing for a later cosplay costume, but add other glitzy pieces, and remove the cape/headdress for the dance itself... would be too much for me... something like this below... as in the belt over the skirt, and similar for a bra piece... something that would work overtop but not attached so I could make the costume work without the 'glitz' as well.
And as for the gypsy style... first thing I thought of was this...
Or maybe her dance costume... although I think part of me likes the 'everyday' one better.
What do you think? I am not so sure right now how this will all work out. I think I need to get 'second skin' for the Midna based costume so I can 'paint' (or maybe sew actual fabric) over it in the right places... I don't know. I watched a tutorial on that. As for Esmeralda... I think a white gypsy top, purple circle skirt, and a dark blue 'corset' would work. I'm thinking of visiting the local mcc to see what I can find in terms of fabric and clothes.
What would you like to see? What do you think would work? I'd love some feedback!

For a Very Special Man
This month, my grandfather went home to be with his heavenly Father.
I'll be honest... I don't really know what to say. I loved my grandpa very much. I have many memories of him. He enjoyed working in the soil... he was a farmer through and through. I stayed over at their house for 3 weeks one time, and I got to spend a lot of time with him and grandma. I remember his pipe... his jokes... him playing bidwist with whomever wanted to have a game... the long ashes on his cigarette. He roasted mini marshmallows over his ash tray with me and my brother once. Made a 'mini' fire with toothpicks and paper and lit it. Mini marshmallows on toothpicks. A mini campout at the dining room table in my grandparents house.
I remember his laugh. That has got to be one of the best things about my grandpa. He always had a smile or a laugh to share. It didn't matter how bad things looked, there was always something to joke about. I remember him taking us around the farm. I didn't spend as much time with grandpa as the boys did, as grandpa always took the boys out to make them work... do a 'man's job'. Put hairs on your chest... that sort of thing. But I always knew he loved us girls, too. He was never a man for hugs, but he'd give me one anyway (and as a child, I was a hugger). He was a farmer, a trucker, and he always had interesting stories to share. I loved listening to him and dad tell stories about things that happened while trucking, people they'd meet and that sort of thing. And all the farming stories... the things they did way back when. I wish I could have compiled it all into a book to share with my kids. Grandpa was a hard worker. I don't think any of this generation in this country really knows how to work as hard as my grandfather did.
And now he's home! He can see his son again. I imagine they're having a great time right now. One day, we will join him there.
I wonder if they have farms and old fixer-upper Case tractors up in heaven... if they do, I can tell you that's where my grandpa would be. :)
I love you, Grandpa!

101 Update
Well, it's been just over a month since I started this new 1001 days... actually, I think it's been 34 days. Meaning I should have at least 3 items done... and I do! Yeah!
Finished
48. Try quinoa - I bought some a while back, and made a new recipe for quinoa bean chili... and it was suprisingly good! Very veggie filled as well!
49. Omit dry cereals for breakfast for 30days - Started this one day one of my new list... and completed it on the 17th of March. I decided to have some cereal on the 18th, and got sick from it... so I've been having dry cereal less and less. Just goes to show that they aren't too good for you in the first place.
62. Print a digital scrapbook - Yup, did this too! I had one done and finished editing it and got it on Shutterfly to print. Did it on Feb 16th at the last minute to be able to use the 50% off code I recieved from them! So, for $95, I got a 98 page 12x12 digital scrapbook! Awesome! Took a while to recieve it... got it early in March. Now to finish and print off the second one...
84. Go on a weekend retreat - First weekend of March was the ladies retreat, and I was able to go! It was a great weekend (can be read about on my week in review for Feb 27 through March 5. And it looks like my husband is going to go on the men's retreat this coming weekend.
95. get a pedicure/manicure - Did this on the weekend retreat! So, completed March 5.
Continued Work
34. Save up $10 for each item I complete on this list - I need to create an actual account for this specifically, but I have started this... sort of... haha.
35. Pay off van - Don't have much choice in this, as the money comes out of the account each month, but hey, we're doing it, right?
58. Catch up on scrapbooking (digital) - Each week I try to complete at least one 'old' page... hopefully I'll catch up by the end of May this year... hopefully...
63. Do a ‘week in review’ scrapbook for one year (at least) and print it - Working on this, too. Each week I do this page. Yup... each week. It's been nice.
Wish to Work on Now
18. visit Festival of Fools - The plan is to go this coming weekend... hopefully with family.
30. Start creating and selling digital scrapbook kits? - I've finished the contest... so now I've created 5 mini kits. After this weekend, I'm hoping to try to find a way to attempt selling them. Not sure how right now. Will have to do a bit of research on it first.
38. Save and buy a bike trailer/two person stroller - I'm not sure when we'll do this, but we've been looking at a few different ones. I'd like to get one for this summer.
65. Make a belly dance costume - Yeah... need one for the first week of June, so I'll have to start designing and creating one soon.
81. Create a system that works to keep our van clean/organized (or relatively so) - I know what I want to do, but how to do it...
So, we'll see how I do on this one this next month!

Newest kit!
Week3: Birdie Blues
For week 3, we were asked to pick a monochromatic color scheme, and create 4 papers and 6 embelishments with the 'scheme' of what we really like. I love birds, so I did that. I think it turned out beautifully! You can download it here, at ivyscraps.
Week 4: Doodlebugs
We were given these colors and told to design a springy kit using doodles, either CU or ones we made ourselves. I just can't help but make all my own stuff. I think it turned out great! I had a lot of fun going for a bug theme, and I made so many papers and stuff... I really should put up an extra mini kit for all of you. I just haven't bothered to do much more than get the kits done and put up. You can download the kit at ivyscraps, here.
Week 5: Lost in Time
We were asked to do a heritage kit, and given our colors once again. I was so unsure about this one... I really had no idea what to do. Our requirement was flowers and our own made grossgrain ribbon. I took a few photos and used them to create some stuff... I like how it turned out. You can download it at ivyscraps, here.
I hope you enjoyed my mini kits! The contest is over after this week and I'll be able to find out how I did overall. I'm thrilled! Was a lot of work and a lot of fun. I'm glad I did it, but I'm also glad it's over. I want to do regular scrapbooking again. :)
Weeks in Review
Here are my latest weeks in review. It's been insane busy lately, and I just haven't gotten around to posting these... but I have now! So, enjoy.
One thing I forgot to add to the latest page is that Lent has started, and I have decided to fast from a couple of things. Mainly, facebook games and sweets. Yes... sweets. All desserts, chocolate, etc... up until the Wednesday before Easter (passover day, I believe). I feel so deprived... and it's only been one week. One. I have another 4 to go... FOUR. Sigh. Am I insane? Lately, I think I'm getting there from lack of chocolate... haha. Or sugar... mmm... sugar....
Sigh.
