Project: Garden Caddy

In making gifts this year, I really had a tough time deciding what to make for different people. Well, my mother in law is a gardener, and I've heard her complain about sore knees after being in the garden for awhile... not to mention asking if I'd seen her scissors/trowel/clippers/etc. So, I thought that this garden caddy from Extreme How-To's site was perfect.

I changed it a bit of course, but only because the sizes of the wood that I had were close, but not exact, and I didn't want to make more cuts than I had to. Nice thing was that I could use scrap wood pieces I had for the most part. I made the handle from a 2x2 piece that I had laying around, and routered the edges with a 1/2 inch round bit. It makes it feel much more like a handle. And I assembled it with glue and my nail gun (with 1.5inch nails) Painting took awhile (due to the wood), and I was able to use the sponge I had (the stuff that was left over from the blocks I made the girls last year), cut in half lengthwise, and glued together before sewing (and gluing the hemmed edges) the cover. The fabric I had already, and it's easily wipeable.

In all, a simple project that really only requires a table saw (or mitre saw... for the smaller pieces).
