So... the 101 list hasn't been updated since October! That means I have a lot I have to try to remember, haha. Not to mention, many that probably will not happen at all due to changes in our life circumstances, but that happens! And I am actually ok with that! Yay!
So, here are the items I finished since October.
2. Have a completely handmade Christmas… no bought ornaments, gifts secondhand or made, etc
Christmas of 2012, we did this. I made all our gifts (except the millennium falcon lego kit I bought my husband back in October when we were on our trip... I figured it would be an awesome 'extra' as a Christmas gift. However, I did make or buy everything else second hand). We managed to do everything for under $200 (and that includes food, ingrediants, craft supplies, second hand purchases, any decorative items I may have needed supplies for, cost to go to various Christmas related activities, donations, etc! I was going to use that extra $100 to get something through Gospel for Asia or something, but never got around to it. Maybe we should plan for that soon.
8. Start our own family Christmas tradition
I'm thinking I really like the idea of doing an 'activity per day' for an advent calendar! I really enjoyed doing it this year, and I plan on doing this in the future. It really brings the focus of Christmas a little more towards family time rather than on just the gifts... although gifts are great too! :) So yes... we started our own tradition. An activity advent calendar!
22. find 5 interesting places/events to visit in local area (not already listed 5/5)
We did yet another! #4 Went to someone's house in the city where they set up trains to ride through the Christmas holiday. Our son loved it. Our daughter... not so much. She liked the trains alright, but it was very cold, and the line was far too long. I'm not sure how often we'll go again. It takes much longer when you are in line with a family than it did when we went last time, 10 years ago, as just the two of us. #5 saw us visiting a new children's area. We also did this as part of our advent... day 1, actually. The kids loved it! There was another 'train' to play in, and ships, etc. They had a great time! We also saw a Christmas tree lighting in a nearby town (saw Santa as well), went to a fair, saw the Santa Parade Nov 17... I could go on!
36. Place at least $10,000 into TFSA’s (done Feb25 2013)
DONE! We finally plopped our savings into our TFSA's on February 25th... the day our daughter was born!
44. Make at least 5 Shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse (5/5)
Did two more in November 2012! Done!
68. Renovate basement
We figured and refigured how we could do the basement for cheap and we finally got the majority of the worst of it done in January. Plumbing. We bought a new water heater, my husband has moved the washing machine and put in a laundry tub, but hasn't moved the dryer yet, and we have a plan for covering the sump hole. The extent of the renos to do... has gone down drastically. Why? We are looking at buying a house. So, all that is really left is to move the dryer, put in a tiny subfloor/sump hole cover, move a table into place as a counter, and add paint and small fixtures to make the laundry area function better. I need some shelves. But we are that much closer!!!
69. Build another bedroom (Feb 2013)
Instead of building a bedroom, we turned the main floor spare room that is supposed to be a living room into a bedroom. Again, this is due to the changes in our plans... looking for a house changes things a little.
80. Purge old toys that aren’t played with (remove at least 25lbs of toys from house 10/25)
We removed another 3lbs of toys. I got the kids to pick a bunch of things they didn't want to keep anymore, and I plan on getting them to pick a number of items a week to get rid of, especially with how much they got at Easter! Goodness! You remove things, only to have more come in!
87. start reading a Bible verse at the table at suppertime (maybe find a ‘daily bread’ or something small we can do as a family)(finished January 2013)
I found a story book that has stories based on a bible verse you read at the beginning of the session. It is a little memory verse of sorts. I get the kids to repeat it after I say it, then I tell them the story. This has been great as my daughter has been reminding us to read the 'breakfast story' every day!
97. Take a pic at 12:12 on December 12, 2012
We did it! And I have the photo to prove it!
Here are a number of items I am looking at doing very very soon... or changing because I doubt we'll do them. :(
1. Do something special for Earth day one year
Will do! Planning a bunch of crafts using recyclables, and non recyclables alike! I've revamped my recycling center so it will be easier to reuse and upcycle things.
10. make plans to have a family day twice/month for one year (/24)
We've been mostly doing this... but I haven't been keeping track very well. Mainly, it's been us all going to the city to walk around during the winter. Sadly, not much to a family day there. Or me making pizza and us all watching a movie Friday evenings. That's every week though, pretty much. We've done that more than 24 times. Perhaps if I go through my 'week in review' books I'll be able to track what we've done.
11. go sledding as a family
I don't see this happening. It was supposed to happen on our advent, but we were all sick that day, and never got around to it any other day. It is virtually impossible to get the whole family to do anything lately it seems. My husband has been so busy, that most of the stuff we do is just me and the kids. Which kills the 'family' aspect. Plus, things are melting. Unless we are able to do so just before my birthday this year, which I doubt. Snow has been coming later each year. And this year is my 30th!
12. go skating on the river as a family or date night
Yeah... this year hasn't been the best for skating on a river. I don't know if the area I had in mind to go to even opened up for skating this year at all. It was the same last winter.
19. Go to the International Children’s Festival
We didn't do the Festival of Fools this year (too soon after A's birth for me to brave that large of a crowd), which is the prelim to the Children's Festival, but maybe we'll be able to plan for it this year. I think it starts up May/June?
20. Take part in Teddybears picnic
Sort of did this in 2011, but not even close last year. This year... hopefully... we'll be able to go and bring our Teddies and actually take part rather than just walking around for an hour.
40. Send someone flowers
I really gotta do this! I've been thinking about it!
41. Release a book via bookcrossing.com
I need to look up how to do this again. I have a few books I could do this with, too!
42. Buy a larger item (about $100) for Gospel for Asia
Again, were going to do this in December, but forgot. I wonder if there is a 'missions' day or something where we could write this in and do it?
66. Label breaker panel
I really need to do this... but I need my husband's help, and he's been so busy lately.
So...
47 down, 54 to go
