So, here I did two pics of our current staircase. I "created" what used to be up on our staircase... literally, that is exactly what was up there. Wrought Iron posts to the ceiling for the top few steps. Now I wanted to see how it would look to have an actual bannister, mainly because we got so used to having nothing there at all, and I've been so afraid of putting this thing up and then feeling like it's boxed in due to the hallway there. However, I love the idea! Sure, the second pic isn't exact, but it gives enough of an idea of what I wish to do with a bannister/rail on the steps. We'll see what it really looks like when all finished!
I'm hoping to take a look at other places for prices to find exactly what I want. I've also been playing with the idea of having every other spindle just square. What do you think? I think it would be a more country look, which would better suit the house... and cheaper, lol. I'll check it out when we go to the store again to see what I think.

I don't think it closes it in too much to do the railing. I'm sure it'll look good! Will you be doing the same railing for the edge of the hallway upstairs?
yes, planning on doing the same thing upstairs. I'm looking forward to having it done, but I still need to buy the wood and only have one week to build it! :(
