They are DONE

So... remember when I talked about refinishing a couple of items this week? I did it! I finished the second coat of paint today! Woo Hoo!

The TSP cleaning and sanding did a lot for those two items already. I looked up online the best way to paint over varnished items, and found out I did the most important steps. The next... priming. I have some super primer (it's supposed to be super adherent, anyway) and figured that would be the best thing (I was not about to go buy more if I didn't have to). So, I primed them... two coats... allowing 13 hours between coats... and another 10 hours before the first layer of paint.
Primed and ready for paint!

I couldn't wait to see how they would look painted, and my patience with allowing the primer to dry really well in between coats paid off. I can tell that already (I generally don't really wait the 4-6 hours they ask... well... I wait maybe 5 hours... and should wait longer). That primer felt as though it wasn't going anywhere (you can generally get a feel for it if it wants to come off right away). So, on went the paint... 10 hours after the primer was on... and gave it another 13 hours between coats of paint (overnight).

Here are the finished pieces (but not in the places I'll be having them... yet).

I still can't believe this item only cost me $2!

And this one I got for free!
So, that's it for those two items! Now to refinish the cradle... the crib I got for $10 (good shape too, just not the color I want, ha ha), and the table and chairs (but probably not until after the baby is born).
Am I nesting or what?

These turned out so awesome! And they were inexpensive projects, too! I am very, VERY impressed!

This project really was a labour of love. I am yet to try anything like this for myself, but when I see how much money you have saved in the process, I feel inspired to give it a try!
